MG Car Finance: How to Compare an MG Dealer Offer With a Broker-Arranged Loan

If you are looking at an MG, there is a good chance the dealership will offer to arrange the finance. That can be convenient, but it is not the only option, and an advertised rate is only one part of what a loan costs. This guide explains how to compare an MG or dealer finance offer with a loan arranged by a broker, using the same checklist for both. It is general information. Alpha390 Finance is an independent broker and is not affiliated with or partnered with MG Motor, and we do not quote MG offers here because they change. For anything about the car itself, or current offers, use MG’s own site. For the wider picture, see our car finance page.

Short answer: should you take dealer finance on an MG?

Not automatically, and not automatically not. Dealer finance can be competitive and simple. A broker can compare a range of lenders. The right answer is to put each offer side by side on the same loan amount and term and compare the total cost, not just the advertised rate.

What MG’s own finance page describes

MG Motor Australia’s finance page names Angle Auto Finance Pty Ltd as its finance partner (Australian credit licence 530731) and describes a secured consumer fixed-rate loan. As at 2 November 2026 it says its finance offers are for approved applicants, are not available to government, fleet or rental buyers, apply to new vehicles at participating dealers while stocks last, and that credit criteria, fees and charges apply (MG Motor Australia, finance; no date shown). Offers, models and eligibility change, so read the current page and any offer’s fine print rather than relying on this summary.

Advertised rate vs total cost

Moneysmart says lenders must give you a comparison rate, a single figure that includes the interest rate and fees, and that it only helps when you compare loans with the same amount and term. Two loans can have the same interest rate and different costs once fees are included, and a low rate may come with a longer term or a balloon that raises the total you pay. Ask each provider for the comparison rate, the total repayments over the term and the full list of fees (Moneysmart, car loans). Our comparison rate explainer shows how to read the figure.

What to compare, line by line

  • Rate and comparison rate. Same loan amount, same term.
  • Fees. Establishment, monthly or account-keeping, broker, and dealer or introducer fees.
  • Loan term. A longer term lowers repayments but usually raises total interest.
  • Balloon. It lowers repayments but leaves a lump sum due at the end. See balloon payments explained.
  • Early payout. Ask what it costs to pay the loan off early.
  • Conditions. Is the offer tied to a particular model, dealer or settlement date?

If the MG is an EV or hybrid

The same comparison applies. Ask whether an offer covers the exact model and powertrain you want, and read the conditions on any promotion. Our EV car loan guide covers electric-car finance in general, and our BYD finance and Tesla finance guides use the same dealer-versus-broker checklist for those brands.

Buying an MG privately or used

A manufacturer offer is usually tied to new cars at a participating dealer. If you are buying used or from a private seller, you would typically need a different loan. Our guide to car loans for a private sale explains how that works, and dealer finance explains what to check when a dealer arranges the loan.

What to have ready

Lenders set their own criteria, so treat this as a checklist rather than a rule: identification, proof of income, details of your expenses and debts, and the car details or dealer quote. Our guide to car loan requirements goes through it, and pre-approval explains why a pre-approval is not a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Is MG finance cheaper than a broker loan?

It can be, or it can not be. Promotional offers are usually tied to specific models and conditions. Compare the comparison rate, fees and total repayments on the same amount and term.

Can I use a broker to finance a new MG?

Yes. A broker can arrange a loan for a new car from a range of lenders, and you can compare it with the dealer’s offer before you decide.

Can I finance a used MG?

Yes, with a lender that accepts used cars of that age and kind. Manufacturer offers are usually for new cars, so a used MG normally needs a different loan.

Should I take a balloon on an MG loan?

A balloon lowers regular repayments but leaves a lump sum due at the end and usually raises the total cost. Only choose one if you are confident you can pay it.

Can I pay an MG loan off early?

It depends on the loan. Moneysmart says variable-rate car loans usually have no early exit fee, while fixed-rate loans vary. Ask for the early payout terms in writing.

Is Alpha390 connected to MG?

No. Alpha390 Finance is an independent broker and is not affiliated with or endorsed by MG Motor.
